Somebody asked me today if i liked Sleigh Bells… This postmodernist instantaneity, this NOTOMORROW, Baudrillard has been telling me lies, the concept of time isn’t vanishing in any possible way. I like better the way The Indelicates put it “the stars shine no matter what we do” or the 60s phrase “it’s all happening” yes, everything keeps happening.

So I went to my music library to find out what i had of sleigh bells. The first thing i heard was ring ring which was released in the Demo EP from 2009 (or Rill Rill). In the other hand the first thing i remembered was Ring the Bells by Yacht, a band i really listened to last year and I even went to a concert. If there’s something I can say about this band is that they put a really good show. So this leaves me with what I like to call “a post with whole similarities”… musical and conceptual at the same time…

Hoy me preguntaron que si me gustaba Sleigh Bells… Esta postmodernidad instántanea, este NOtomorrow, es mentira lo que dice Baudrillard, el tiempo no se está eliminando en ningún sentido, me gusta más como me lo explican The Indelicates “the stars shine no matter what we do” o la frase de la contracultura de los 60 “it’s all happening”. Todo sigue ocurriendo.

Entonces me dispuse a ver que era lo que tenía en la librería de sleigh bells, y lo primero que escuché fue ring ring que aparece en el EP Demo que sacaron en el 2009 (así de tan poco tiempo les había tenido).  Por otra parte lo primero a lo que me recordó esta canción fue a Ring the bells de Yacht, un grupo al que si le tuve mucho tiempo y hasta los vi en vivo, puedo decir que son re-divertidos en concierto.  Entonces tengo un post con similaridades completas… musicales y conceptuales.

As a teenager I used to sing at the top of my lungs “Still Ill” by the Smiths… This phrase made the song for me “England is mine and it owes me a living”.

I went to London once when I was 17, and almost kissed the floor before I put a foot on the ground…

The thing is, there’s a time in life when you stop thinking about how much the world owes you…

Cuando era una adolescente solía cantar a todo pulmón “Still Ill” de The Smiths… Esta frase era la canción para mi “England is mine and it owes me a living”.

Yo fui a Londres a los 17, y casi besé el suelo antes de poner un pie en la ciudad.

A lot of people confuse Sagganuts by the Strokes with a cover of Run run run by The Velvet Underground… is not.

The only connection between these two songs is the repetition of the words ” run run run”, although it has more repetitions in the song by The Velvet Underground, but TVU definitively has been a reference for the Strokes anyways.

Sagganuts is not in any “official” release of the Strokes, it was recorded live at a place called Arlene’ s Grocery in New York, around the 2000, when ” Is this it” wan’t even released and that I found in a disc of B-sides, by the way Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Junior are the ones shouting “run run run”.

Mucha gente confunde Sagganuts de the Strokes con un cover de Run run run de The Velvet Underground… no lo es.

La única conexión que existe entre estas dos canciones es que repiten “run run run”, aunque se repite más veces en la canción de The Velvet Underground, pero definitivamente TVU ha sido un referente para the Strokes. Sagganuts no está en ningún disco “oficial” de the Strokes, fue grabada en vivo en un lugar de Nueva York llamado Arlene’s Grocery más o menos en el 2000, cuando aún no había salido “Is this it” y que encontré en un disco de B-sides, por cierto Nick Valensi y Albert Hammond Junior son los responsables de gritar “run run run”.
